Third Iris Launches VIAAS at DEMOFall 2009

September 22, 2009 - DEMOFall 2009, San Diego, Calif., Sept. 22, 2009 – (Pavilion Station # 54) Third Iris Corp., a pioneer in the IP video industry, today launched VIAAS (Video Intelligence as a Service), the first online service for video monitoring, at the prestigious DEMOFall 2009 conference in San Diego. Combining state of the art video surveillance equipment and cloud-based monitoring services, Third Iris delivers affordable IP-based surveillance for companies of all sizes.

“VIAAS takes a new approach to video monitoring and security by bringing the benefits of the ‘as a service’ model to video monitoring,” said Steve Roskowski, co-founder and CEO of Third Iris. “VIAAS is simple to install, provides the power of professional monitoring systems and delivers enterprise-class reliability without the complexities typically associated with video monitoring solutions.

“Cost of entry is less than one-fourth of equivalent premise based systems and since VIAAS operates as a service, customers benefit from lower ongoing cost of ownership as well,” added Roskowski.

Ideal for Businesses of all Size

Just as with other cloud or “as a service” solutions, VIAAS offers inherent benefits – low cost, low maintenance, as well as central management, storage and access – that will appeal to a wide cross-section of vertical markets. The video intelligence VIAAS provides not only gives businesses a powerful security system to guard assets and protect employees, it also helps organizations to obtain better information about business operations and methods to increase sales. And with centrally managed servers and constant service monitoring, businesses can rely on it to be there every day.

“VIAAS is unique in its ability to apply the SaaS approach to IP video surveillance in a way that is both affordable and easy to implement and maintain,” said Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO Conferences. “In so doing, the VIAAS solution will appeal to small businesses, of course, but will also scale to the very large enterprises that are looking to trim costs from shrinking IT budgets.”

One such small business that is benefitting from the peace of mind that the VIAAS solution brings is Family Medicine Associates of San Jose Inc., based in California. Melissa Pfluger, practice manager for Family Medicine Associates, noted that the VIAAS IntelEvents™ feature is especially beneficial because it simplifies the process of searching through excessive footage to find particular video coverage according to date and time of capture.

“Installing VIAAS was simple and it is nice to know that the cameras are there and that I do not have to check them every day to make sure they are working,” said Pfluger. “I know that I can easily call up any particular date and time via the user interface without having to filter through hours of video. With VIAAS we know that the physical premises as well as the personal property of staff and physicians are now secured against theft or defacement.”

Core Mobility – a Mountain View, California-based developer of mobility software and solutions and wholly-owned subsidiary of Smith Micro Software – relies on VIAAS for trusted on-premises security.

“Having tried other on-premises solutions, I was impressed with how affordable and easy to use VIAAS is,” said CEO Konstantin Othmer. “VIAAS presents an intuitive, simple interface that makes it easy for us to access video in real-time or from the archives whenever we need it.”

How VIAAS Works

VIAAS cameras automatically connect to the VIAAS service over a broadband Internet connection. The cameras use intelligent object-based motion tracking to capture IntelEventsTM - video, images, and supporting information around activities - and transmit them to the service for user access and storage. In almost all situations, VIAAS cameras work without configuration or network changes.

“For all the cost and feature benefits we bring, I think the most compelling aspect of VIAAS is the simplicity,” said Roskowski. “You really can just plug a camera in and it works. Since VIAAS runs all the servers for you, it is just as simple to keep it running over time.”

Users can access video by logging into VIAAS using any standard Web browser, on any operating system, from any location without needing custom plug-ins or extensions. The VIAAS user interface makes it fast and easy to find specific video and images even from multi-terabyte archives. VIAAS also features efficient real-time monitoring through its unique ‘”NOW” functionality and real-time streaming from any camera is also available at any time.

Low Bandwidth Requirements and High Security

VIAAS is designed to work with customers’ current broadband connection. Using patented Bandwidth ShapingTM, VIAAS cameras need less than one-tenth the bandwidth of traditional cameras, enabling most customers to use VIAAS without upgrading Internet connections. In addition, all VIAAS video and images are strongly encrypted and digitally signed even in storage, assuring customer privacy and validating data authenticity.

VIAAS Camera One™

The VIAAS camera is a uniquely styled device, optimized for ease of installation. VIAAS Camera One provides ultra-wide dynamic range (up to 110db) color video at 20 fps during the day. With a built-in IR exchanger, extended exposure and multi-dimension noise filtering, the camera works well in low light and using an external IR illuminator, it can capture images in the dark. VIAAS Camera One is a Power over Ethernet (PoE) device, enabling single cable installation, and comes with a 4x zoom lens and a flexible camera mount.

“Camera One really makes installation fast and easy,” said Roskowski. “The high dynamic range and good low light performance means customers can install it without worrying much about lighting. Combined with the convenience of Power over Ethernet and zero configuration, customers can install the camera without special expertise.”

The Third Iris live on-stage demonstration of VIAAS will take place at DEMOFall 2009 today, Sept. 22 at 9:02 a.m. Third Iris will also showcase the new product at station # 54 in the Demonstrator's Pavilion at DEMOFall 2009, located at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.

VIAAS is immediately available in North America only. Camera One models are offered at $249.95 each and $29.95 per month for the subscription to the VIAAS online service.
